Open role

We're hiring an Engineer, full-time and on-site in New York. AI lets us work across disciplines, so we hire engineers who own problems end-to-end—not separate roles for each specialty. Complete the engineering work sample, then submit the result directly from the listing—no cover letter needed.

Build Wagr end-to-end. This is one engineering role spanning mobile, web, backend, games, design, infrastructure, security, and data—not a separate job for each specialty. Use AI to move across disciplines and ship reliable, polished experiences, while owning the decisions and the results.

What you'll do

  • Take problems from product idea through design, implementation, testing, release, and production operation.
  • Work across our iOS, Android, web, backend, and game systems wherever the product needs you.
  • Use AI tools to accelerate research, prototyping, and development; review and verify everything you ship.
  • Build fair gameplay, trustworthy wallet and payment flows, and the security, fraud, risk, and compliance controls that support them.
  • Use data, player feedback, and production evidence to improve product quality, reliability, and performance.

What we're looking for

  • A track record of shipping production software and owning outcomes end-to-end.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals in APIs, databases, concurrency, real-time systems, and testing.
  • The ability to learn unfamiliar languages, tools, and domains rather than stay within one specialty.
  • Practical experience using AI development tools, with the judgment to catch incorrect output and validate results.
  • Product sense, attention to interaction design, and clear reasoning about security, fairness, and real-money correctness.
  • Comfort working across a stack that includes Swift, Kotlin, React/TypeScript, Rust, and Unity/C#; you do not need prior expertise in every technology.

The task

Build a small, end-to-end skill-gaming experience: a player joins a match, plays a simple skill game, submits a score, and sees a server-confirmed result and wallet settlement. Include a client, a backend, and a reproducible local demo. Choose the languages and platform that let you show your best engineering judgment. AI tools are encouraged; you own the correctness of the result.

Deliverables
  1. 1A runnable project with source code, local setup instructions, and a complete join-to-settlement flow.
  2. 2A deterministic demo covering a successful match, disconnect/reconnect, duplicate score submission, and delayed settlement.
  3. 3Focused tests proving a match settles once, unauthorized score submissions are rejected, and stale events cannot overwrite confirmed state.
  4. 4A short note explaining architecture, product decisions, security and fairness boundaries, tradeoffs, and how you used and verified AI-generated work.
Constraints
  • Use synthetic players and funds only; do not connect to live Wagr systems or real payment services.
  • The server owns scores, balances, and settlement. The client must not invent a balance or show a final payout before confirmation.
  • Use integer minor units for money, and ensure repeated requests cannot create multiple payouts.
  • Keep the scope small enough to finish and explain; a coherent, working system matters more than the number of features.
How we evaluate it
  • End-to-end ownership, product judgment, and the quality of the playable experience.
  • Correctness under failure, concurrency, and adversarial inputs.
  • Clear boundaries, maintainable code, and evidence that the system works.
  • Effective use of AI without outsourcing engineering judgment or verification.

Bug bounty program

Found a security vulnerability? We want to hear about it. Wagr runs a bug bounty program — report bugs and exploits responsibly and we'll work with you to get them fixed fast, and recognize the researchers who help keep our players and their money safe.

Responsible disclosure

  • Email a clear writeup with steps to reproduce, impact, and any affected URLs or endpoints.
  • Test only against your own account — never access, modify, or destroy other users' data.
  • No DoS, spam, social engineering, or physical attacks.
  • Give us reasonable time to investigate and fix before any public disclosure.
