Steam service status
Is Steam down right now?
Steam can appear down even when only one part of the platform is having trouble. The live snapshot below shows limited official Steam API signals, while this guide explains how to tell a broad incident from a problem limited to your device, network, account, or region.
Current snapshot
Steam status
Steam's official Web API and connection directory responded. This does not confirm every Steam component or region.

What a Steam outage can affect
Steam is not one server. The desktop client, sign-in path, Store, Community, Web API, content-download network, friends system, and game connection services can fail or slow down independently. A working Store page therefore does not prove that friends, matchmaking, or downloads are healthy.
Start with the exact action that is failing. That gives you a better signal than a generic error message and helps you avoid destructive fixes for a platform-side incident.
- Sign-in problems: the client loops at login, reports a connection error, or cannot validate a session.
- Store problems: product pages, the cart, checkout, or account history fail while the client remains online.
- Community problems: profiles, friends, chat, inventory, or Workshop pages time out.
- Download problems: updates stall, report no connection, or select an unusually distant content server.
- Connection-manager problems: the client disconnects broadly even though public web pages still load.
How to tell whether Steam is down for everyone
A broad incident usually affects multiple devices, networks, regions, or Steam services at approximately the same time. A local problem usually follows one account, device, router, DNS resolver, firewall rule, or internet provider.
Use the following checks in order. Stop once the evidence identifies the layer that is failing.
- 1Read the live component snapshot above and open its source. Treat it as a signal, not a guarantee from Valve.
- 2Try both the Steam client and a Steam web property. If only one fails, the incident is probably component-specific.
- 3Test a second network, such as a phone hotspot, without changing account or client files. A successful second-network test points toward the original network or ISP.
- 4Ask one nearby player and one player in another region what they can access. Regional agreement is more useful than a single social post.
- 5Check whether the problem began during a client update, game update, or commonly observed Steam maintenance period.
Steam maintenance and Tuesday disruptions
Steam commonly performs recurring maintenance on Tuesdays. Short sign-in, friends, game-coordinator, or connection interruptions around that period do not necessarily indicate a prolonged outage. Valve does not publish one guaranteed weekly start time or duration that applies to every service and region.
If a disruption begins near maintenance, wait a few minutes and recheck before reinstalling Steam or changing network settings. A prolonged failure outside that pattern deserves broader diagnostics.
Troubleshooting when Steam status looks normal
When the monitored services look normal, preserve your installation and account state while you isolate the problem. Reinstalling should not be the first step: it adds work and does not repair an upstream outage.
- 1Fully exit Steam, confirm the client process has stopped, and reopen it once.
- 2Confirm your device date, time, and time zone are correct. Authentication can fail when the system clock is materially wrong.
- 3Restart the router only if other devices on the same network also show connectivity problems.
- 4Disable a VPN or proxy temporarily and retry. A congested or blocked exit region can affect login, Store, and download traffic differently.
- 5Check firewall or security-software history before changing rules. Add an exception only when the software shows that it blocked Steam.
- 6For downloads, pause and resume once, then review the selected download region. Avoid repeatedly clearing files while an update is actively being distributed.
Protect your Steam account during an incident
Outages attract fake support replies and phishing pages. Do not enter a Steam password, Steam Guard code, recovery code, or API key into a status site or a link sent by an unsolicited account. Wagr does not need those credentials to show the status information on this page.
Use Steam's own client and steampowered.com domains for account recovery. A real platform incident is not fixed by transferring items, authorizing a trade, or sharing a screen with an unknown helper.
How Wagr determines this Steam status
Valve does not provide a single official public status dashboard covering every Steam component. Wagr checks Valve's official Web API server-time and connection-directory endpoints. A response confirms those narrow API paths; it does not confirm the Store, Community, downloads, friends, every game server, or every region.
A missing response is reported as unknown rather than operational. Wagr does not infer that all of Steam is healthy merely because one official API endpoint responds.
Steam status FAQ
Why does Steam go down on Tuesdays?
+
Steam commonly performs recurring maintenance on Tuesdays, which can briefly interrupt sign-in, friends, connection managers, or individual game coordinators. There is no single guaranteed outage window for every service and region.
Why does the Steam Store work while friends or games do not?
+
The Store, Community, connection managers, friends services, and individual game backends are separate components. One can remain available while another is degraded.
Should I reinstall Steam during an outage?
+
Usually not. First confirm whether the problem is widespread and isolate the failing component. Reinstalling does not fix a platform-side incident and can create unnecessary download work.
Is this an official Valve status page?
+
No. Wagr is not affiliated with Valve or Steam. The displayed responses come from Valve's official public Steam Web API, but this Wagr page is independent and does not cover every Steam service.
